a peek inside my income studio

There are two distinct sides of being a successful artist. There's the creative side and then there's the business side. It's the business side that I've been struggling with recently.

I have the most gorgeous pottery studio. It's airy and light-filled, and helps me feel so wonderfully creative. It's the kind of space I want to be in ALL THE TIME. I am so happy working with my clay and my glazes and my kiln. And I've been creating the most magical things.

However, I've had the hardest time making myself do the business side of the work - the admin, the computer, the emails, the photos of new creations, the product listings, the shop restocks. My husband calls this side of my business the 'income studio'. And he says that my creative business can't be wildly successful if I am not as strong in the income studio as I am in the creative studio. Sadly, I know he's right! In order to share my magic with the world, I HAVE to spend as much time on admin and marketing as I do on creating.

And so, this weekend I spent a lot of time turning my income studio (my office) into a place I enjoy spending time in. My thinking is that if I can make it a place I enjoy being in, I'll feel less resistance to the income side of my work. So yes, I spent my time being creative in setting up my income studio but hopefully it'll translate into more time in the office.

Here's what it looks like -

I love my table that looks out at the gorgeous mountain. And all of my thrifted furniture and collected treasures.

Do you think I'll be better at spending more time on the business side of my work in my new income studio? I mean, I even wrote a blog post from it today so I think things are looking up!

love Donni
